SUDAN
PEOPLE’S LIBERATION MOVEMENT
The
Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM)
came into being in 1983 following the collapse
of the 1972 Addis Ababa Agreement. It was jointly
formed with the Sudan People’s Liberation
Army (SPLA) and was largely the political arm
of the civil war struggle up to the signing of
the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005.
SPLM is now transforming itself into a political
party with the party structure of SPLM divided
into:

current SPLM Interim Political Bureau and the
SPLM Interim Executive Bureau were formed by a
presidential decree issued by the President of
Southern Sudan, Lt. General Salva Kiir Mayardit,
with the role of making preparations for the SPLM
second general convention and to strengthen the
political structure of the party.

the Government of National Unity, the SPLM is
working to develop itself as a national party
by integrating its membership in North Sudan to
