Summary of Discussion Board
October 4 - 16, 2005
The Forums on the Discussion Board have now been broadened
to reflect and include the changes that have taken place since
the signing of the peace agreement in January this year, the opening
of the National and Regional Assemblies, the passing of the interim
constitutions, the formation of the Government of national Unity,
GONU, and the expected formation of the Government of Southern
Sudan, GOSS. Issues of Governance and Development are expected
to feature now and in the coming months.
“The
Hero of Numule” is a curious posted about an American
Missionary who also claims to be an SPLA commander and is able
liberate children from Kony’s of LRA. After six responses
it seems to have hit a dead end due to lack of more information
about this man.
“A
CRITICAL LOOK AT THE NEW DRAFTED CONSTITUTION OF SOUTH SUDAN:”
This is a long opinion piece responding to one already posted
on the Opinion Page. Though no responses yet, it deserves reading
on its own right.
“Please
let's give General Kiir's SPLM/A a benefit of doubt!”
Posted on Oct 9, it has so far gathered 17 responses. This appeal
is made in the light of widespread talks that the new Southern
President is sidelining former close aides to late Dr John Garang.
Due to lack of enough information about what is really going on,
the poster appeals, we should be guarded in our criticism of Salva
Kiir until things have become clear. Another focus of criticism
is the role of Bona Malwal Madut, now an advisor to the Presidency,
which effectively makes him the key advisor to Kiir Mayardit,
a person he has long supported and more recently vocally advocated
the replacing (forcefully if necessary) of late Garang by Kiir.
As far as some members on this board are concerned, Kiir’s
failures and successes in the coming months will be seen as also
reflective on his chief advisor: Bona Malwal.
“What
Worries me” was posted on Oct 6th and has so far gathered
10 responses. The poster is worried about what he sees as the
posting of mostly lightweight Southern politicians and members
of SPLM/A to positions in the GONU. There are pros and cons for
both the national and the regional positions with some directed
advise to Dr. Lam Akol, the Foreign Minister.
It is recommended that those who
have time to spare should go through the whole posting and select
what they like for themselves.
